Do you know someone who displays a statue of the Infant of Prague at home?
In the houses of my Catholic friends I used to see sometimes beautifully decorated Infant Jesus of Prague statue. I was a child then and I wonder if people still have them. Moreover, where comes this image of Jesus toddlers originate? Was it a picture in a church?
I view the Infant Jesus of Prague in my home. I found this on the History http://www.pragjesu.info/en/history_infant_jesus.htm website of the Infant Jesus of Prague, The Child Jesus Prague is a native of Spain. The legend tells that the Child Jesus miraculously appeared to a monk, who modeled the statue based the appearance of the apparition. Another statue belonged to the legend of St. Teresa of Avila, founder of the Discalced Carmelites, which was on fire with a great love for the Christ Child. She says she gave the statue to his friend, whose daughter was leaving for Trip to Prague. When Duchess Maria Manrique de Lara came to Bohemia to marry a nobleman from Bohemia in 1556, she received the statue of his mother as a wedding gift. When her daughter Polyxena Lobkowicz was widowed, she gave the precious statue to the Discalced Carmelite monastery attached to the church of Our Lady of Victory in 1628. The Carmelites placed the statue in the chapel of the novitiate, so that the young monks learn the virtues of the Child Jesus. At that time, the Thirty Years War raged across Europe and even the Baby Jesus was not spared when the Saxon army occupied Prague in 1631. Only after his return to Prague in 1637 that Father Cyril of the Mother of God, a native of Luxembourg, the statue was discovered, abandoned in a corner. To his misfortune, however, he found that the Baby Jesus had both hands severed. At this time, it seemed that the Child Jesus said: Have – pity on me and I will have mercy on you. Give me your hands and I'll give you peace. The more you honor me, the more I will bless you. Finally, Father Kiril had new hands for the Child Jesus. The gold coin investment has been returned to several times that Enfant-Jesus began to bless the monastery, local people and all of Prague. The miraculous healings that have been assigns, as the protection of Prague, where he was besieged by the Swedes in 1639. In 1651, the statue has been performed as a cycle of Locust all Churches in Prague and in 1655 she was solemnly crowned by the bishop of Prague.
