Antique lamps, you expect to be porcelain, glass, wood or brass, but no paper! One but, yes, there are lamps in antique paper mache.
Papier Mache is a French word that literally means mashed paper, or sometimes chewed paper. There is a story that interpretation from original 19th century London when the French paper mache workers as a method of preparation.  No one knows if true, it probably one of the two, "say" stories.
Although we know by its French name, paper mache was not produced in France until the mid 17th century. France gave us the name, because the French were the first Europeans to do so.
Buta you historia goes much further in time than the 17th century. We must return to the Chinese Han Dynasty, more than 2000 years to find the origins of this remarkable material.
China has always kept remarkably detailed records and today we know that it has discovered what could be done with these "scraps of paper!." Â
Ts'ai Lun, 2,000 years ago, has been recognized as the inventor of paper, an invention that became one of the most important discoveries in the world. Ts'ai Lun was an official government Han and a scholar, a scientist who worked to further develop an earlier paper prototype. It was the first to record his efforts, although archaeological evidence shows that the document may have been made earlier.
With a mixa made of wet linen, hemp and bark Mulberry, Ts'ai Lun it spread out on a bamboo mat for dry. After drying in the sun for a while, he discovered that the sheet result had become as hard as wood. This is the first known discovery paper mache.
This new material has been discovered quickly utilized, and the first evidence of its practical use is that military helmets! Â The form of helmet was formed on a mold and once dried, has received several layers of varnish, produced from the resin of the Chinese tree Rhus. This produced a military-style helmet, which became the standard number. It has also been used to add decorative elements to love and shields.
Since its discovery China, the technique of production has reached Japan and Persia, where important examples of objects made of paper mache can be seen today in these countries, the national museums.
Over time, items decorated began to be imported from imperial China, with silk and porcelain to reach Europe in the early 17th century. In 1660 France began producing paper mache forward for England in the 1670s.
The standard technique is to overlay, where strips of paper, and sometimes flax were soaked in glue and added to a layer upon layer of mold
The mid-18th century England saw John Baskerville, a fine book printer in London, linking and type founder who began to imitate pieces of paper mache lacquered Japan. So successful were his results that he has left us with the name "japanning. His assistant, Henry Clay also invented a way of producing paper mache, so strong that it was equally durable than wood. He did it by sticking paper specially prepared hot forming panels, hard heat resistant.
At the end of the 18th made, including, bowls and trays with tea, boxes, sculptures, props for stage and even jewelry! Â Â Â
In about 1860 the production of cardboard peaked production, with products continue to be imported from china.it With the rapid development of new materials, he began lose its popular demand, although the last plant was not closed until 1920.Â
