Hummel ®, the name is one of the most popular collectibles porcelain figurine. Started by Goebel more than 70 years, Hummel figurines are the creation talented sculptors translating the drawings of Sister MI Hummel, a talented artist from Bavaria. Perhaps no other figure has had the same longevity. They became popular in America shortly after World War II when soldiers returning home From Germany brought these figurines of children in their Bavarian daily activities of charm. They became very popular in America and the world as collectible works of art.
However Goebel Germany has ceased production October 31, 2008. Demand had fallen by one third of sales expected. They intend to sell Hummel figurines as long as their inventory. It'sa bit of a sad end to one of the longest contracts between one of the artists children more and a large pottery company. The original artist, Berta Hummel (Sister MI Hummel) became so popular locally for his drawings of local children and children From his childhood, that the Company Goebel sent a representative to meet to try to compromise a contract to bring these paintings beautiful children porcelain figurines.
Berta Hummel was impressed enough that it has signed with Goebel, and part of the agreement was that she should accept each new product line of figurines.
