Is it true that the works of African Art in the Louvre are at the same level as the artistic works of the West?
There several works of African Art at the Louvre Museum and The British Museum. Is it true they reach the same level of artistic splendor that works Western art do? Strictly for example, are the bronzes of Benin on the same footing as any Michaelagelo? What Is there any other works of art (musical instruments, masks, ceremonial clothing, etc.)? Should they be in the same museum, because they are equally important and require the same level of technical expertise?
There is no measure of artistic level. Museums have a variety collections. However, this does not mean that the works are "valued" by collectors at the same price level. Michaelanglo works are invaluable and irreplaceable. If the museum has to offer, it would go for several million. I suspect that the African artifacts would not go that high, but both are considered art.
