Antique Lighting – Very rare, mid-18th century, french Faience Table Lamp

The 18th century saw the flourishing of decorative arts and France led the rest of Europe in the expression and artistic style. It was in the region of Marseille, which saw the production of some of the finest examples of French faience. "Faience" is french name of tin glazed earthenware,
known for the Dutch and the French as "Delft" and "Majolica" Italy.
One of the most remarkable of these factories was opened in 1740 by Claude Perrin (1696-1748) and when he died in 1748, it was his widow,
Mrs. Pierrette Candelot, which took over the management of production. This fact alone, in the mid-18th century, was considered very unusual.
Under his leadership the production flourished, especially the quality of the flower painting. With foresight Madam Perrin enrolled her faience painters in french art academies to develop and refine the elegant style of flower painting that we see today. painting Faience is notoriously difficult, the painter using the surface of the canvas glazed earthenware.
The French 18th century was century the painting of the rococo and floral was expressed in this beautiful style.
The style known as "floral decoration Naturaliste Grand Fleur" is natural but not botanical, yet informal and with a sense of formality. Flower Painting lose bunches of summer flowers, small and aerosols branches, very often with moths and butterflies, ladybugs and caterpillars, and it is known that many painters of the resumption of bouquets of flowers on the way to work as models for the day.
The majority of documents are marked with the letters "VP" for the initials French "Veuve Perrin", which means the widow Perrin. Madame Perrin died in 1793 and production continued, but declining to 1803.
The manufacture has struggled through the violence of the French revolution which finally saw the collapse of Rococo "Deco Floral.
